Sports-Related Injuries

In general, there are two types of sports injuries:

1. Traumatic Injuries, which spawn from a sudden event
2. Overuse Injuries, which stem from repetitive microtrauma

The term “sports-related injuries” references the cause of the injury. Because of this, most sports-related injuries lead to an alternate diagnosis and subsequent plan of action.

Symptoms obviously will vary depending on the type of injury, and resulting diagnosis, but can include one or more of the following:

  • Bruising
  • Inflammation
  • Limited mobility
  • Joint instability
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness

  • R.I.C.E. protocol
  • Fluid removal
  • Cortisone injections
  • Physical therapy

Surgical treatment will be determined by your specialist after examining and diagnosing the condition. Due to the wide variety of sports-related injuries, we recommend seeing a physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan as soon as possible.
